Balancing Act

I started this blog to document my time in school from the perspective of an older student. One with responsibilities beyond that of the normal student. Hence, Old Timer's. I have not done to much of that yet because I've been, well busy. :)

On Saturday I woke up with a sore throat. By Sunday, I had a good cold going. Sinuses a mess and a runny nose. In the middle of a heat wave! So, yesterday (Monday) I woke up still feeling bad from the cold. I got the girls up and ready to go. My youngest, Lily, had a check up at the doctor. When Jena, my oldest, got up she said she was itchy still (Sunday she had the same complaint and I saw what I thought were bug bites on her legs and gave her Bendryll). I looked again, the "bites" had turned into a weird rash. Where is my doctor husband when I need him? Good thing we were going in. The doctor said it was an allergic reaction of some sort. Luckily it has gone away quickly on it own.

After the appointment I dropped them at the sitter's and came home to make a few calls. Mostly about our house in Fayetteville which we are now trying to rent. I did also manage to schedule a hair appointment for my very neglected hair. After that I stopped by the store to hit up the school supplies sale. Need stuff for both Jena and myself. From there I went to school. I was driving with a million things running through my mind and was not paying attention to how fast I was going. In town the speed limit is actually 30 here! A huge change from Fayetteville, NASCAR country. The speed limit is not less than 45 outside of residential areas and everyone speeds anyway. So, Manhattan PD welcomed me with a little present. Opps. Then I was late to class by 5 minutes and had to do the walk of shame.

15 years ago in undergrad, I didn't own a home or have kids. I only had to worry about Roger and me. And that was more than most of my classmates at the time. Now, I have to worry about so much more. I need to learn to tune out the noise a little so I can focus. Its just really hard to that when so much is going on.
